My Face on a Cupcake

Behind This Mask

You cannot see me,
Find me,
Know me,
Not the real me…
I’ll hide behind this mask.

You cannot love me,
Share with me,
Care for me,
Not behind this mask.

You cannot scare me,
Hurt me,
Laugh at me…
Not behind this mask.

Soooooooo..... I'm joining in on the Manic Monday Mission and this is my first one. Should have been quite simple. All I had to do was put my face on a frikkin' cupcake. Did it turn out to be that simple? NO. Not at all.

I thought of all sorts of creative things that I could have done. Except that the lesson about masks in my Rebuilding class wouldn't let any of the other thoughts through.

It was this time last year that we did the lesson. We all got little pumpkins and we had to put our "masks" on the pumpkin. I think a lot of my masks were the same. Masks are not a bad thing. They are who we are on the outside and many times on the inside as well.

But when we've been hurt -- hurt badly, we use these masks to keep people from getting all the way in. Our masks are not our walls. But rather what we hang on our walls that we build up around our heart. It's our way to protect our emotional self without creating concrete walls with no doors. Only those precious few souls that tilt the masks realize that there is no wall behind them.

So here's my face on a cupcake... My three base animal totems that make up the core of ME (Goat, Owl, and Spider) and surrounded by a circle of my masks. If you are interested in your animal totems, read the book Animal Speak.

I think I have a pretty healthy mix of positive and negative masks. The negative ones.... i'm working on. a lot. But then by working on them, i feed into the "busy" mask that I have for myself. I've been struggling with this one for sometime now. I have some direction on the path I want to follow and where I want to land. And hopefully when all the dust has settled from the landing I will find that I have learned that I can Listen and Be Still within the busy life that I have chosen.
